  • 2010 Ladies Doubles Tennis Challenge

The Face of Henley Ladies Double Tennis Challenge was held at the Peppard Tennis Club on Wednesday 26th May with a fabulous total of just over £1,600 being raised for the Charity. All proceeds raised from the day will go towards helping local individuals and causes in and around the Henley area.

A total of 66 local ladies took part in a round robin competition. The day was a great success with the eventual winners of the Main competition being Sandra Greenslade and Annabel Wilson with the runners up being Caroline Edwards and Clare Pelling. A separate tournament was also played with a group of ‘less experienced’ players and this was won by Annabel Christie and Catherine Hale with the runners up being Susie Tritton and Sarah Ingram. Sarah Flindall and Jane Moss would sincerely like to thank all the ladies for taking part in what was a fun day of tennis and helping us to raise so much money for local Henley people.

The Charity was also very fortunate to be supported by Attack Tennis and Peppard Tennis Club who donated £250. Attack Tennis provides tennis coaching and playing opportunities to everyone in the Henley area. This includes a schools programme, which provides free coaching to every child in every primary school in Henley and the surrounding villages. Ash Taylor of Attack Tennis said “We are really pleased to be able to be involved with an event and Charity who provides so much to so many in the area”.

The Charity would also like to say a huge thank you to Karen Trouss Youle, Janey Maple and Sarah Hollister for all their help on the day. Also to the Peppard Tennis Club for allowing us to hold the day at their courts, to Charlotte Stuart who kindly catered for us and to Marlene Pearce of Gold Key Designs who produces all the marketing material for the Charity.

We are also very grateful to a number of local businesses that kindly donated raffle prizes. We are only too aware of the difficult times that businesses are currently experiencing so a big thank you to A H Interiors, Lucy and Tim Henman, Relax Today, The Lamb at Satwell, The Sports Shop in Henley, Nik Page Personal Training, Joanna Carter Flowers, Sno & Sun Gear, Jane Collings ‘Jamie at Home’ and Waitrose Henley.

The Charity’s next event is a Pre Regatta Pamper Evening on Tuesday 22nd June, 7.30pm - 10pm at Harringtons Hairdressing and Riverside Skin Clinic. Harringtons have kindly agreed that all proceeds of the evening will be donated to ‘The Face of Henley’ Charity. The cost of the tickets are £15 each which includes a glass of champagne, canapés, a mini treatment and one to one consultation with anyone of their health and beauty specialists. Simply phone Harringtons Henley or Riverside Skin Clinic on 01491 576600 to book your ticket.

  • 5th Companies Challange Quiz Night

This year’s Quiz Night was held at Badgemore Park Golf Club Thursday 14th May.

This year we only had 5 teams competing due to the credit crunch. Four of the old faithfuls - Mercers Solicitors, Kench & Co, Indigo Rye and Peers Hilton. Then our newcomers this year were Best of Henley.

The teams had to answer a range of questions covering Bonfire Night, Advertising Slogans, Cryptic TV Shows and Creatures of the Night.

The evening was won by the newcomers Best of Henley and for the first time ever the wooden spoons went to Kench & Co.

£450 was raised and the evening was a great success with everyone saying they are already looking forward to next year. Hopefully next year we will have more companies supporting us.

The Charity would sincerely like to thank Mercer Solicitors, Kench & Co, Indigo Rye, Peers Hilton and Best of Henley for coming along and supporting The Face of Henley in these difficult times. Also a huge thanks to Badgemore Park Golf Club and Hugh and John Legh for their support, our fabulous Quiz Master Mr Toby Greenwood and our judges Mr Jeremy Flindall and Mr Mike Moss (our husbands)!!
